Celeb: Johnny Depp
Thursday, August 25, 2005
This week, hunky star of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Johnny Depp, answers the Getaway questionnaire on travel and his latest film.
Q: What's your favourite place to holiday and why?
A: Anywhere by a boat. The Bahamas is not a bad place to sail around. The Caribbean. The Mediterranean is nice as well. I just love being on the water.
Q: What's your number one travel tip?
A: The cub scouts and boy scouts have the best one. Be prepared — for anything. Travel with wine. Yeah, bring good wine with you.
Q: What do you never leave home without?
A: My kids first. My kids and my girl! Passport. You just never know where you might end up.
Q: Ultimate travel experience?
A: Honestly, to sail around the earth. That's one of my great dreams.
Q: Favourite Australian travel experience?
I've had some great travel experiences in Australia. At one place I asked if it was possible to, instead of looking at the koala, if I could meet it. This little thing, little koala approached me and stuck out his arms and I thought, "How cute". Then he stuck these talons on my leg and started to climb me. Think he thought I was a tree.
Q: What's the best thing about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
A: What we tried to do was be as faithful to Roald Dahl's book and his intent as we possibly could, so it's pretty honest to what Roald Dahl wanted.

May the wind always be at your back
And the sun upon your face
And the wings of destiny to carry you aloft
To dance with the stars...
